Growing Up:
Eleanor Roosevelt was a strong hearted woman even as a child. Growing up though she struggled fiercely with her family. It all started turning for the worst when at a young age her brother, Elliott, was diagnosed with depression and being an alcoholic. That was the least of her struggles though at the age of 8 her mother died of Diphtheria. Then 2 years later Eleanor’s father died of a terrible fall.
Later, Eleanor moved in with her grandmother who sheltered her from the outside world until she was 15 years old then Eleanor went to a school in England where they spoke all French; then returned to New York when she was 17 years old. When returning back to her home, Eleanor decided to do charity work helping out the poor and also was involved soup kitchens. She also started working the industry of department stores.
After Finding Franklin:
After her time out of the house for once Eleanor found her 5th cousin. Eleanor eventually ended up marrying him and then having 6 kids. One of which died in infancy. After building a family Eleanor kept up with her career as a public speaker for woman’s rights to vote. Then a terrible accident happened in 1921 while in war Franklin’s leg was fractured. Eleanor ended up staying home being his extra leg. Eleanor helped Franklin’s leg back to activity.
As First Lady:
After nurturing Franklin’s leg Eleanor recommended him to go into office to run for president since he was head over heels in politics. He made office and she became known as First Lady. At that point Eleanor was thinking of what she could do to help the people. Eleanor ended up helping more black Americans toward full citizenship. Eleanor helped black Americans become citizens then in the re-construction. Eleanor also worked in government specifically for the cabinet of Civilian Defense then she resigned from the job because she wanted to help Americans. When Franklin went into war she came along too to help with the Red Cross. Also in World War 2 she helped saved Jews by helping them escape to the United States. Another thing she did was Eleanor went across seas to visit the other troops to boost their spirits up. Then Eleanor went back to public speaking.
After Franklin’s death: After Eleanor’s husband death in 1942 everyone was expecting Eleanor to resign her job and live in quiet. That was true for about half a year but then she did more public speaking and helped out even more. Eleanor also decides to visits a few foreign countries during her last years. Eleanor soon died on November 6, 1962. Eleanor will always be remembered for her great public speaking and how caring she was.
